My first Halloween haunted house

I thought I’d share another Halloween memory while I finish taking photos for another post I have in the works.

One of my favorite things about Halloween is the haunted house. Home haunts, professional stand alone haunts, theme park haunts, I love them all!  I’ve been going to haunts since I was 9 years old. I’m 28 now. So yeah, I’ve  been going a long time!

The first haunt I ever went to was the original Scream in the Dark in Bakersfield, California. I remember going with my older sister, her friends, and my dad. I don’t remember much of what was inside. It was one of those generic haunts put on by high school volunteers from Campus Life. The one thing I remember vividly was walking out of the exit, with my face buried in my dad’s back, crying from fear. He asked me what was wrong and I replied in between sobs, can we go again?  This memory just echoes in my head for a lot of reasons. I have so many fond memories with my father and I continue to make more daily but this one is just my favorite. Scream in the Dark will always hold a special place in my heart not only for this but because it was my parents first date. I feel like that almost genetically predisposed me to a life of horror.

And that started my life long love affair with the horror genre and haunted houses. It’s that love that led to my desire to pursue a career in special effects and beauty makeup.

What are your favorite haunted houses? Tell me some of your favorite haunted house memories!
